Overview"Projects" can last as little as one day or take several years to complete. They may involve a wide range of stakeholders and extensive development of Project Management Techniques, or simply the application of the one or two key tools. Even working on their own, many professionals, such as accountants and solicitors, routinely use Project Management techniques. Sometimes, they may be repeating the same, (or similar), well-established procedure for different clients, and often be dealing with a number of clients at the same time. Project Management is not just a role for specialists: there are also many people who are required to routinely use Project Management tools as part of their normal management function. Whatever the scope, nature and timescale of the Project, the key principles of managing and co-ordinating key activities will remain the same. The central aim will be to ensure that completion is successful, within budget and on time. This requires the application of two distinct sets of abilities; defined as ‘Technical' skills and ‘Interpersonal' skills. Technical skills are vital to ensure that the project is properly set up. They also enable managers who retain total direct control to ensure that all procedures are properly followed and that all checkpoints are correctly passed. At the same time, the Successful Project Manager will be expecting to achieve results through other key players, and the correct application of interpersonal skills will effectively influence and motivate them. Through a combination of exercises, self assessment questionnaires and discussion, this intensive one-day course introduces participants to the essential tools and techniques of the successful Project Manager.
