Representation:
The Chamber's Policy Unit campaigns on behalf of members, exerting powerful influence on Government to create a more favourable business environment in North Staffordshire. We have regular dialogue with Ministers, MPs, Government departments and local authorities to promote the interests of Chamber members. Formulating policy via its standing committees, ad-hoc specialist groups and regular business surveys, the Chamber is the legitimate voice of local business. We are active in a whole raft of local partnerships and are playing an active role in the regeneration of the region.

The Business Manifesto
In spring 2006 we published our Business Manifesto in order to set out how we will tackle eight key issues that are hindering the prosperity of businesses in North Staffordshire. These issues are:

  • Education and skills,
  • Regeneration
  • Regulation and the tax system
  • Transport
  • European legislation
  • Business crime
  • Energy
  • Pensions

Chamber Training

We have a variety of one-day sessions which we feel meets the needs and demands of our local employers.  These courses are delivered in our excellent training facilities at Commerce House, Festival Park. Our regular Chamber Training leaflet is sent out quarterly to members informing them of our scheduled one-day courses.

We complement this offer with bespoke training activities which can be delivered on site, or at our training rooms, and is tailored to suit an individual employer's needs.  Our Training Development Manager meets regularly with our members' to match training to business goals.

Our newly refurbished training rooms are also available to hire comprising interactive whiteboard and air cooling system.  These rooms can be used for meetings, seminars, events and training.  If you wish to view please telephone Linda McQuade or Rachel Banks on 01782 202222 or email training@nscci.co.uk.

The team based at Commerce House links in to a network which includes over 200 embassies and consulates worldwide. See International Trade Services on menu to the left.

North Staffordshire Manufacturing Group

The group exists to promote best practice and improve the profitability of manufacturing companies in North Staffordshire. It operates through regular sessions which cover a range of topics and disciplines designed to improve overall company performance. The group is supported by the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS), Michelin Development and the Ceramic Industry Forum.

Regeneration

The Chamber plays an active role in many partnerships which have given rise to the ongoing regeneration of the region.

North Staffordshire is reversing years of industrial and social decline with a raft of government funded support and private sector investment. The North Staffordshire Regeneration Zone takes in most of Stoke-on-Trent and parts of Newcastle-under-Lyme. Former mining and heavy industrial sites have been transformed into modern commercial and distribution sites with major national retailers Sainsbury's, TK Maxx and Screwfix securing distribution hubs.

The government has identified more than 20 neighbourhoods across North Staffordshire for several £billion regeneration under the housing market renewal 'Pathfinder' initiative.

Stafford has seen major commercial development at M6 Junction 14 and Stafford Technology Park where hi-tec architecture sits alongside more traditional commercial accommodation.

Managed Partnership Projects

Business Brokers are working in the North Staffordshire Regeneration Zone matching community regeneration needs to local businesses. The aim is to engage more businesses in the communities that they share and to offer the local workforce a motivational opportunity to be part of the regeneration process. They also facilitate a series of major business events under the 'Let's do' banner including Let's do Business, Let's do Enterprise and Let's do Networking.

Finest the professional services network - launched in 2004, this network aims to create business opportunities, through collaboration and networking.
